Derek and I traveled home from Stanford two weeks ago. They had a bed waiting for him at Loma Linda Children's Hospital when we arrived, and he was admitted for two days to make sure he was stable. They released him with two IV antibiotics which I administered at home. Because we transferred in the middle of his individualized treatment, we were all home together for only two days before he was admitted back to the hospital to continue his chemo. He completed the chemo last Sunday, but developed severe mucositis in his mouth, lips, and esophagus. It has also spread to his stomach and colon. He has had a lot of pain from it and is unable to eat, so he has been back on TPN once again. He is slowly regaining his strength, though his white count is still zero. We are hoping he will be able to come home soon. We expect that this week he will be starting radiation to his face and neck to try to reduce the tumors remaining there. Thank you all for your continued prayers and notes. I read them all, and am encouraged by your thoughtfulness though I may not have time to respond to them individually. Thank you for understanding.
