Thursday night Derek had a CT that showed considerably more lung congestion. They now say he has bronchial pneumonia. It is not what we wanted to happen, but he has nothing to fight this bug with. Friday, was quite a day. The morning started with a crowd of doctors coming in the door of
Derek's room, concerned that he had desaturated even with 6 liters of oxygen on. They increased the oxygen to 8 liters and changed the type of mask he was using. Several electrolytes were way low, and he needed to get immediate replacement. They felt he was markedly worse and contacted the ICU team in case they decided he should be moved to ICU? The ICU team came and assessed him and asked a lot of questions as a way of setting a benchmark of his condition.

His cough had changed to a more productive cough on Thursday, but on Friday he was coughing less, which isn't necessarily a good thing when productive coughing is beneficial. His doctors decided to start an anti-fungal medication, an antiviral medication, and give him IVIg. In addition, he needed platelets and blood. The nurse managed to get all of this in him without having to do a peripheral stick, which made my mommy heart thankful.

He is still spiking high fevers and continues to worsen. He needs lymphocytes to fight this RSV, and I'm afraid he won't have them for a week or two at minimum. Thank you for your prayers on his behalf. We will see what God will do.
