Together
Watching someone suffer whom you love must be one of the most difficult things in the world. He was so brave and fought so hard. And we were together, because no one should fight alone. We were together, because in the midst of the fighting, there was also

Battle Ended - Wednesday, August 24, 2016
Derek's long, brave battle ended peacefully this morning August 24 at 4:45. The three of us were holding him, and he was not in pain. The hope of heaven is cemented in our broken hearts.
Much Overdue Update: August 21, 2016
When I last wrote, Derek was preparing for 10 palliative radiation treatments to try to halt the progression of tumor growth in his face and neck. He completed those treatments by the end of July and seemed to be making progress. His labs were improving slowly, and the number of

It has been an intense two days since Derek was transferred to the PICU. I'm sorry I haven't posted any updates, but I knew many of you would keep praying even not knowing how things were going. Even though Derek's situation has been critical, certain happenings

Derek was transferred to the ICU overnight for respiratory distress. He is now on a CPAP machine that will hopefully open his airways again. Though the headgear he has to wear and the constant

So things have not gotten better for Derek since my last post. Yesterday was crazy. He got blood and platelets in addition to several lengthy electrolyte drips and new medications. Because Derek has no white cells, he has nothing to fight this RSV. The doctors decided at last to give him IVIg in the hopes
